2/27: Season Ends For Stupiello & Knapp At Regions
Senior Mike Stupiello came up one win shy of a trip to Atlantic City on Saturday, dropping a 5-3 decision to Keyport's Greg Velasco in the wrestleback finals of the heavyweight division. Sophomore Lex Knapp went 0-2 on Saturday, dropping decisions to the 215-pound champion, Andrew Marr of Wall, in the quarterfinals, and a 3-0 decision to Tyler Lyster of Ocean in his wrestleback bout.
For Stupiello, he ends the season with a record 19-5 with 11 pins and a career record of 77-28. Knapp's season ends with his record at 27-9 with 11 wins by fall.

Sophomore Lex Knapp edged John D'Ambrosio of TR East, 4-3, and senior Mike Stupiello made quick work of Monmouth's Ryan Greenwood, as both wrestlers won their Region openers on Tuesday night to move on to the quarterfinal round to be held at the Ritacco Center on Friday evening.
Senior Colin Coffey had his season ended on Tuesday when he fell to Allan Manzano of Toms River East. Coffey finishes the year with a record of 15-6.

Seniors Mike Stupiello and Colin Coffey, and sophomore Lex Knapp earned medals at Saturday's District 24 Tournament to qualify for the 2010 Region 6 Tournament. All three will be in action at Tuesday night's opening round at the Ritacco.
For Stupiello, it is his 2nd trip to the Regions, and he is scheduled to face Monmouth Regional's Ryan Greenwood. Coffey is slated to face returning Region 4th-place finisher Ricky Bandejas of Brick, while Knapp is to be matched up with TR East's John D'Ambrosio.

2010 Season Preview
Head Coach: Tom Pfister (8th Season)
After some pretty down years earlier this decade, the Lacey wrestling program has been gradually improving each season. After finally getting back over the .500 mark in 2008, the Lions not only matched that in 2009, but they qualified for the State Sectional Tournament for the first time in many years.
Seven starters from that team are back and, along with some newcomers and the return of a familiar face, will be looking to continue their upward trend in 2010.
The familiar face returning is at 119. Colin Coffey showed some great potential as a freshman at 103 for the Lions in 2007, but spent the past two seasons in Long Island. He's back at Lacey and is a great addition to a group that is capable of being a very solid unit down low with returners Kevin Enright and Danny Moore, both sophomores, junior JP Sinopoli, and seniors Steve Van Eerde and Everett Bajada.
Senior heavyweight Mike Stupiello is the anchor in a top half that took a bit of a hit to graduation, especially in 215-pounder Justin Pandorf. There will be several new starters in this group that may take some lumps early on from the brutal A-South slate, but should come along nicely with the experience gained from those types of matches. Sophomore Lex Knapp is one to keep an eye on in this group.

Wrestler To Watch - (Sr) Mike Stupiello
Stupiello hung in nicely at the Regions with narrow losses to Jeff Keffer (6-4) of Pt. Boro and Ricky Lyster (4-3) of Ocean. He's compiled 56 wins over the last two years and is one of the most experienced heavies in the Shore. Look for another 30+ win campaign and look for him to be in the hunt for a medal at Regions.
DESPO's Outlook
The A-South slate is BRUTAL, but it will have the Lions well prepared as the season progresses. If the lower half of the lineup wrestles to their potential, and the newcomers up top come along nicely, the Lions should once again be above the .500 mark and secure a spot in the Sectionals.

2/27: Season Ends For Stupiello & Knapp At Regions
Senior Mike Stupiello came up one win shy of a trip to Atlantic City on Saturday, dropping a 5-3 decision to Keyport's Greg Velasco in the wrestleback finals of the heavyweight division. Sophomore Lex Knapp went 0-2 on Saturday, dropping decisions to the 215-pound champion, Andrew Marr of Wall, in the quarterfinals, and a 3-0 decision to Tyler Lyster of Ocean in his wrestleback bout.
For Stupiello, he ends the season with a record 19-5 with 11 pins and a career record of 77-28. Knapp's season ends with his record at 27-9 with 11 wins by fall.

Sophomore Lex Knapp edged John D'Ambrosio of TR East, 4-3, and senior Mike Stupiello made quick work of Monmouth's Ryan Greenwood, as both wrestlers won their Region openers on Tuesday night to move on to the quarterfinal round to be held at the Ritacco Center on Friday evening.
Senior Colin Coffey had his season ended on Tuesday when he fell to Allan Manzano of Toms River East. Coffey finishes the year with a record of 15-6.

For Stupiello, it is his 2nd trip to the Regions, and he is scheduled to face Monmouth Regional's Ryan Greenwood. Coffey is slated to face returning Region 4th-place finisher Ricky Bandejas of Brick, while Knapp is to be matched up with TR East's John D'Ambrosio.

After some pretty down years earlier this decade, the Lacey wrestling program has been gradually improving each season. After finally getting back over the .500 mark in 2008, the Lions not only matched that in 2009, but they qualified for the State Sectional Tournament for the first time in many years.
Seven starters from that team are back and, along with some newcomers and the return of a familiar face, will be looking to continue their upward trend in 2010.
The familiar face returning is at 119. Colin Coffey showed some great potential as a freshman at 103 for the Lions in 2007, but spent the past two seasons in Long Island. He's back at Lacey and is a great addition to a group that is capable of being a very solid unit down low with returners Kevin Enright and Danny Moore, both sophomores, junior JP Sinopoli, and seniors Steve Van Eerde and Everett Bajada.
Senior heavyweight Mike Stupiello is the anchor in a top half that took a bit of a hit to graduation, especially in 215-pounder Justin Pandorf. There will be several new starters in this group that may take some lumps early on from the brutal A-South slate, but should come along nicely with the experience gained from those types of matches. Sophomore Lex Knapp is one to keep an eye on in this group.

Stupiello hung in nicely at the Regions with narrow losses to Jeff Keffer (6-4) of Pt. Boro and Ricky Lyster (4-3) of Ocean. He's compiled 56 wins over the last two years and is one of the most experienced heavies in the Shore. Look for another 30+ win campaign and look for him to be in the hunt for a medal at Regions.
DESPO's Outlook
The A-South slate is BRUTAL, but it will have the Lions well prepared as the season progresses. If the lower half of the lineup wrestles to their potential, and the newcomers up top come along nicely, the Lions should once again be above the .500 mark and secure a spot in the Sectionals.
